What is live watercolor painting at a wedding?

Live watercolor guest painting is an activity where Gabrielle paints guests’ outfits and silhouettes from reference photos taken during your event. Portraits show an individual or a couple, without faces or background scenery. These are small guest keepsakes rather than one large painting of the ceremony.

How much does live watercolor painting cost for a wedding in Quebec?

Intimate: $950 CAD, up to 50 guests; Signature: $1,175 CAD, up to 75 guests; Celebration: $1,650 CAD, up to 100 guests. Travel fees are additional for every location. Custom requests are quoted individually. A package’s guest limit does not guarantee one individual portrait per person.

Does every guest receive an individual portrait?

One individual portrait per guest is not guaranteed. Gabrielle paints guests individually or as couples during the agreed time on site. Include your guest count and reception schedule in your inquiry so you can choose a suitable package and agree on expectations.

Do you paint the guests' faces?

No. Gabrielle's signature style focuses on each guest's outfit and silhouette, with no faces and no background. This approach highlights fabrics, colors, folds and posture for a clean, graphic and timeless keepsake.

How does the evening actually unfold?

Gabrielle photographs guests individually or as couples, then paints at her table throughout the evening. Guests can enjoy the reception while she works. Completed watercolors are available for pickup at her table in a clear protective sleeve.

Do you travel outside of Montreal?

Gabrielle travels throughout Montreal and Quebec. Travel fees apply to every location, including Montreal and Laval. They are specified in your quote based on your event location.

When do guests receive their watercolor?

Completed watercolors are available for pickup at Gabrielle’s table during the evening in a clear protective sleeve. Studio completion and mailing are not included by default in live painting packages. Any additional arrangements must be agreed in the quote.

How do I book Aquarelle & Gabrielle for my event?

Booking is by appointment through the site contact form, by email at info@aquarellegabrielle.com or by phone at 514-293-7745. Gabrielle gets back to you within 48 hours with a custom proposal based on your event type, guest count and date.

How much space do you need to set up?

A quiet corner of roughly 2 meters by 2 meters is enough, with a power outlet nearby and decent lighting. I bring my easel, folding table, brushes and all the materials. Ideally a visible spot for your guests, but far enough from the dance floor and speakers that the paper stays dry and I can actually work.

What if my event is outdoors? What happens if it rains?

We always plan a backup together at booking. Watercolor and water get along in the brush, not on the paper: I paint under a roof, inside a tent closed on three sides, or indoors. If the weather turns, I adapt on the day with your coordinator or planner to move my setup without interrupting the evening.

Some of our guests are shy. Is there any pressure to be painted?

None. Guests come over when they want, and only if they want. Because I paint outfits and silhouettes without faces, it's far less intimidating than a traditional portraitist: nobody has to pose, smile or hold still. I work from a quick candid photo, often taken without the guest even noticing.

Do you paint every body type, outfit and tradition?

Yes, and happily. Wedding gowns, sari, kimono, abaya, two-piece outfits, traditional dress, less conventional evening looks: every fabric, every cut and every culture gives watercolor something different. I paint every body type, every age and every gender expression with the same attention to detail, and I genuinely love events where the outfits tell several stories at once.

Can live watercolors be used as wedding favors?

Yes. A hand-painted portrait of their outfit gives guests a personalized keepsake. The service combines an activity during the reception with favors available for pickup throughout the evening. Mention whether you would like individual or couple portraits when you inquire.
